This
Gibb vent as molded is too short and the horizontal pipe should
be open at either end. This pipe just rested on top of the trunk
vent rather then bending down into it as seen in part G12.
Rebuild
the Gibbs vent using the method outlined in the the Mushroom
Vent section of the Vent Overview but use a larger diameter
plastic stock for the top. The vent should be as tall as the
GSC staircase skylight.
The
pipe was hollow so use either hollow brass rod or Evergreen
plastic rod or sprue and paint a black dot of paint on each
end to make it look hollow.
- Note:
Bob Read has suggested that the pipe may not have been
an operational pipe at all. It may have been used to hang
canvas over it to dry when needed, this function being delegated
to a crew only area. We are uncertain at this time if this
is correct but it does seem plausible when looking at an enlarged
section of the Beken photo in conjunction with aerial Olympic
photos.
