At
the rear of #3 funnel's deckhouse is a trunk vent like
H23A but only half height and entirely within the bulkhead.
To
make this vent you must first remove the rectangular section
molded onto parts H13 and H14. This is the model's representation
of the crew stairwell that existed here. See DOORS
section (doors to be modified) for details.
First
glue H13 & 14 together then saw off the stairwell
piece and clean up with a file and sandpaper. There are
now two options to make the new vent.
Option
1 (scratch build part):
Use
a piece of sheet plastic cut to the width of a H23A and a height
equal half the height of the bulkhead.
To
simulate the grill pattern CA glue a seat from a spare GMM photoetched
bench over top of your new sheet plastic vent.
To
create the upright glue spare single bars from GMM railings
onto the front. Paint to whole part white then the grill sections
Gary.
Option
2 (Tom's Modelworks vent):
You
can glue this directly onto the bulkhead and paint the grill
sections Gary or create a more realistic vent by removing the
section of the bulkhead behind it as follows:
After
slicing off the stairwell glue a single piece of 0.40 x 0.40
Evergreen rod behind the bulkhead approx. 2mm up from the bottom.
This will give the bulkhead added strength when you cut out
the section for the vent.
Measure
the vent and mark this up on the part. It is essential that
you make the hole slightly smaller than the vent so that there
is an over lap that the vent part can be glued to. Cut on the
inside of your marks so that you can file the hole bigger if
needed.
Glue
to the bulkhead and paint white along with the bulkhead.
Also
paint the interior of the funnel three deck housing black to
give the illusion of great depth.
