Description:

This part is not provided in the kit.

Over the top of the aft Grand Staircase skylight cover built into the bulkhead of the Tank Room was a vent similar to the one on the stern bulkhead of the #3 funnel deckhouse.

There are two options for this vent.

Option 1 (scratch build part):

Use a piece of sheet plastic cut to the width of a H23A and a height equal half the height of the bulkhead.

To simulate the grill pattern CA glue a seat from a spare GMM photoetched bench over top of your new sheet plastic vent.

To create the upright glue spare single bars from GMM railings onto the front. Paint to whole part white then the grill sections gray.

Option 2 (Tom's Modelworks vent):

You can glue this directly onto the bulkhead and paint the grill sections gray or create a more realistic vent by removing the section of the bulkhead behind it as follows:

  1. Glue a single piece of 0.40 x 0.40 Evergreen rod behind the bulkhead approx. 2mm up from the bottom. This will give the bulkhead added strength when you cut out the section for the vent.
  2. Measure the vent and mark this up on the part. It is essential that you make the hole slightly smaller than the vent so that there is an over lap that the vent part can be glued to. You will also have to be wary of the two slots for the skylight cover bulkheads. Cut on the inside of your marks so that you can file the hole bigger if needed.
  3. Glue to the bulkhead and paint white along with the bulkhead.
  4. Also paint the interior of the Tank Room black to give the illusion of great depth
