The kit
suggests that this part extends to the roof of the 2nd class
stairway (by the elevator building). It appears that this pipe
does NOT extend over to the roof but bends down and connects
to the roof of the 1st Class Smoke room, port side of the middle
cowl vent.
Bob
Read suggests that this may be a flue pipe for the 1st
Class Lounge fireplace rather than a Gibbs extractor.
The
authors are undecided as to the true nature of this pipe
and remain open to both possibilities until further developments
surface.
To
build the configuration opposite use a similar technique
to the mushroom vent construction.
- Make
the vent out of Evergreen rod selection or pulled sprue. For
the base use a larger diameter rod and cut to approx. 3mm
high.
- For the
main shaft use a narrower stock.
- Drill
a hole in the top of the base to the same diameter as the
main pipe.
- Glue
a length of rod about 30mm long into the hole. This will give
you a little extra to work with.
- Bend
to 90 degrees approx. 4mm above the top of the base section.
- (Optional)
To make a locator pin for the vent select a small diameter
rod and drill a hole the same diameter in the base of the
wider cylinder and glue the rod into the base.
- Now extend
a line aft from the hole slightly port of the centerline on
the No4 Funnel deck house. This was the original position
for part G11 and should be filled. Mark a spot on the raised
smoking room roof approx. 13mm aft of the deck house bulkhead.
DO NOT use the hole in the center as this is for the rigging.
- When
the funnel is in place put the base of the vent in the hole
you just drilled and measure the length to the base of the
funnel. Mark this and cut to length.
- Paint
white and glue into position.
